Floating Frame Cards

By | 09/04/2019

Have you seen the new rage in card making? They are called “floating frame” cards.  This past weekend I took some time to jump on the bandwagon and created my first two cards using this technique. If you are interested in try to make one check out the YouTube video by Jennifer McGuire, she has a great video explaining the technique.

Here is the short version of the technique.

  • Die cut a variety of images, coloring them in desired
  • Arrange on a piece of card stock
  • Use piece of Glad Press and Seal (from the grocery store) to hold die’s in place (pressing gently)
  • Die cut a shape out of the center
  • Remove card stock backing gently
  • Add Dimensionals to the “frame” and adhered to card base or another piece of card stock
  • Ending result is that the frame (card on left) has a frame that looks like it’s floating

This is the first “floating” frame card I made, in the open spaces I added Pearl Embellishments for a girly look. The sentiment on the front of the card was stamped on a Rectangle Stitched Shaped framelit and is from the Waterfront Stamp set. Since I had an extra bird, I stamped some leaves on the inside and added the bird – don’t forget about the insides!  So what month with my Sunday Stampers be making this card? Stay tuned.

The card below was made using the piece that was die cut from the card above. All I did was mat the die on Old Olive Card Stock and add to a Whisper White card base. The Facets Dots embellishments include some in Basic Black and since I seemed to have a bunch of those, I added them.  Sent with Love is from Itty Bitty Greetings Cling mount stamp set.
