Happy Halloween !

Happy Halloween, please make sure to stay safe tonight while trick or treating!

As pet parents, thought I would take a moment to remind everyone that as much as your dog or cat may beg for some of your Halloween candy, always remember that chocolate is deadly to them in any amount. There is a chemical that naturally occurs in chocolate that dogs and cats just cannot tolerate.  Even wrappers, such as tin foil, can get stuck in your pet’s digestive tract and make them ill or even cause death. There are plenty of recipes for making homemade dog and cat treats, you can always make them with a Halloween theme for that special treat for your pet!

R U ready for Halloween ?

Hope you all had a nice weekend, the weather here on Saturday was cool and rainy all day, perfect for a little crafting – who wants to go out in the rain. Sunday was a beautiful cool sunny day and I relaxed in the sun porch doing almost nothing, perfect ending to the weekend.

One week from today is Halloween and thought I would share a card with you that the embellishment could easily be put on a Kraft Gift Tag to hold your treats (if not for Halloween, for any occasion).

The embellishment highlights the Halloween Treat Wood mount stamp and the Halloween Night Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP) and Bakers Twine, it can be adhered to a card base with Stampin Dimensionals or liquid glue or added to a gift bag with a cute paper clip.  I always make a few special Halloween packages for the neighborhood kids and they will get these gift bags from me!

Layers of the embellishment include banners made with the DSP and Banner Triple Punch, cardstock run through the Petal Burst embossing folder and the stamped image cut out with Paper Snips. To finish it off is a double string bow using bakers twine.

4th Sunday of Christmas featuring Wondrous Wreath

Welcome to the 4th Sunday of Christmas. Over the next 8 Sunday’s I will continue to share cards and projects using a different stamp set each week to create holiday projects. If you are a member of my newsletter group I will be sending out measurements and how to details of all the projects.

This Sunday I am featuring the 9 count photopolymer stamp set Wondrous Wreath which happens to have matching Wonderful Wreath Framelits. This is a Two-Step Stampin’ set, which gives you so many creative options–combine individual stamps to build the final image you want in the colors you want. Stamp the wreath in one color, add berries in another color, and finish off with a wreath in still another color. Since these are photopolymer stamps they are perfect for image placement.  Suggested clear blocks for this stamp set (sold separately) are a, b, c and e.

Here is a close up of two of my favorite cards I created, one uses Bermuda Bay, Smoky Slate with the accent color Real Red and the second uses the wreath (stamped in traditional colors) as the letter “O” in the word JOY.

Here is a close up of two more cards, one is accented with Flirty Flamingo (not a normal holiday color) and the other is Elegant Eggplant with vellum and heat embossing.

No Bones about It – it’s Simple Saturday

Welcome to Simple Saturday, were I use one stamp set to create the card. Today I’m featuring the 18 piece photopolymer stamp set, No Bones about It.  Suggested clear blocks (sold separately) are B – C – D -E – G. This stamp set is perfect for children’s birthdays of any age.

This isn’t your average dinosaur stamp set. This is a Two-Step Stampin’ set so you can combine individual stamps to build the final image you want in the colors you want. Stamp a skeleton over the solid body image, add spots and speckles, even add a party hat to a birthday dinosaur.

My first card uses the colors Smoky Slate, Basic Gray, Calypso Coral and Pool Party to create your own designer series paper, layered on Calypso Coral mat and a Smoky Slate card base. Layering Oval Framelits Dies were used to create the panel for the sentiment and background scalloped oval.  With this card any sentiment works on the inside including birthday, thank you and thinking of you.

Pop-Up Twist Panel card and other Sunday Stamper Cards

Today I thought I would share with you the cards we made this past weekend with my Sunday Stampers.

All the rage right now are Pop-Up Twist Panel cards, so of course we had to make one :).  The base for the card are three pieces cut from a 12″ x 12″ piece of card stock.

  • Card base – 4″ x 11″ or 12″, scored in the middle
  • 4 Panel Pop Up – 10″ x 3.5″, scored on the 10″ side at 2.5″, 5″ and 7.5″
  • Pop Up Mechanism – 8″ x 3.5″, scored on the 3.5″ side at 1.75″  and then on the 8″ sides (both) pencil mark at 2.25″ and 5.75″, score to opposite measurements to form “x”

The card also used the Cookie Cutter Christmas Bundle for the Gingerbread men and Reindeer, Candy Cane Lane Designer Series Paper, Real Red and Early Espresso card stock.

The other cards we made used the Star of Light and Paisley & Posies Bundles. Both cards used foil sheets for added bling, the new copper foil really goes nice with the Petals and Paisley Designer Series Paper.

For the Star of Light card we used Whisper White, Cherry Cobbler and Gold Foil. Any color combo would work, why not try Night of Navy with Silver Foil, Elegant Eggplant with Silver or Copper, or even use two colored cardstock like Emerald Envy with Mint Macaron.

With Paisley & Posies we used Delightful Dijon and Rich Razzleberry Card stock and ink pad. with Very Vanilla.

Pink October Simple Saturday

Welcome to Pink October Simple Saturday.

Isn’t it great that we have a Pink October? Think of how many building change their lighting to Pink this month, even football players have pink gloves and pink towels. With Pink October to support the fight against breast cancer. I thought I would come up with some Pink cards for Simple Saturday.

That’s the thing I like about paper crafting, you can make things any color you like without searching all over a store to find a unique color combination that you like.

The first card I’m featuring is a Christmas Card and second is a Thankful for you card.

My first card features the colors Blushing Bride with Flirty Flamingo, the Tin of Tags Photopolymer Stamp set and Layering Circles Framelits Dies.

The second card features the colors Sweet Sugarplum with Rose Red and the photopolymer stamp set Paisley and Posies, which comes as a bundle with the Paisley Framelits Dies. For added texture a piece of Sweet Sugarplum cardstock was run through the Petal Burst Textured Embossing Folder and some of the coordinating Sweet Sugarplum Ruched  Ribbon was wrapped around the matted stamped image.

Thoughtful Banners in Color

Hope you are having a great week, I know I am, tomorrow starts a week of vacation for me!

Today’s card features the Thought Banners Photopolymer Stamp set, which also comes as a bundle with the Duet Banner punch. For this card I choose to use the long rectangle stamp to create the background for the card. The colors are from a color challenge a few weeks ago (Paper Craft Crew #212) that I just feel in love with and decided to make another card using the colors:

  • Crushed Curry
  • Night of Navy
  • Tangerine Tango
  • Emerald Envy

The greeting is from the Confetti Celebration stamp set and I used the Layering Oval Framelits to die cut the images.  The Whisper White stamped background is adhered to Emerald Envy (die cut the scallop oval out of the middle to save paper), backed with Stampin Dimensionals and adhered to a Crushed Curry card base. Once I added the White Perfect Accents I decided the card needed a like something something and using fellow demonstrator Dena Rekow’s Spritzing technique (open a marker and flick ink from the end using the inside of the cap), added some Emerald Envy ‘spritz’ to the card, that definitely finished off the card nicely.

Simple Thinking of you card

Today I am sharing with you a card I made and sent to my nephew Jake, a freshman at the University of Delaware. Thought he would enjoy the mail and I wanted him to know his Uncle Dan and I are thinking of him. My plan is to send him cards a few times a month, some with a little surprise inside!

Let me start my telling you how I made the background of the card:

  1. Cut ½” strips of paper using the Moroccan Designer Series Paper (DSP)
  2. Cut piece of Very Vanilla to 3½” x 4¾”
  3. Run Fast Fuse all over one side of the Very Vanilla
  4. Start with one piece of DSP and adhere from left to right at an angle
  5. Follow that with two pieces at the opposite direction to create what looks like a x
  6. Add additional pieces of DSP to create the image, don’t worry about pieces hanging over the edge once you have all DSP attached, turn over and trim any extra paper
  7. Adhered to mat of Cajun Craze 3¾” x 5″

Before I adhered background piece to the Very Vanilla card base it looked like it needed something extra, I used a Delightful Dijon Marker to spritzed the edges only, then adhered the background piece and really like how it turned out, it’s just what it needed.

This background is a great way to use designer series paper, especially if you have those scraps you are not sure what to do with.

The greeting is from the same stamp set and stamped in Cajun Craze on a 1″ banner.  I took a piece of Very Vanilla Thick Bakers Twine separated the strands, adhered to the end of the left side of the banner with a few glue dots and adhered the acorn with dimensionals.  The acorn is stamped in Delightful Dijon and Dapper Denim.

2nd Sunday of Christmas – Reason for the Season

Welcome to the 1st Sunday of Christmas. Over the next 12 Sunday’s I will be posting card, tags and other projects using a different stamp set each week to create holiday projects. If you are a member of my newsletter group I will be sending out measurements and details for all the projects.

Today I am featuring the Reason for the Season Photopolymer stamp set from the Annual Catalog, a favorite of mine.  There are 10 stamps in the set and Clear Blocks A, C and D work best with the set. This is a Two-Step Stampin’ set. Combine individual stamps to build the final image you want in the colors you want. There are so many possibilities with this set, you are only limited by your imagination. I will be showing you four ideas for this set.

First up are two cards using the same idea, stamp the outline image in Black and then 2 stamp the flower of the flowers and leaves.  One is a triple layer, where you layer the Whisper White, stamp and mat, other is all on the same piece of Whisper White. I even spattered a little Emerald Envy from a marker over the finished card.

Next up is a water colored card. Image is first heat embossed with White Stampin Emboss Powder, then colored with an Aqua Painter.

Last of my ideas, uses the new Copper Foil Sheets as a mat and Copper Stampin Emboss Powder for the images, so simple but yet so elegant.

Simple Saturday with Watercolor Words

Welcome to Simple Saturday, using one stamp set to create your card. Today we are using the Watercolor Words Photopolymer stamp set, which includes 11 stamps. Not only do you have greetings, but images in the set that can be used to create your own background paper.

For my cards below I made one on a Whisper White card base and on another, a piece of paper from the Serene Scenery Designer Series Paper Stack was cut to 4.25″ x 5.5″ and adhered to a standard Whisper White card base. Both are stamped using the same inks to show the difference and how designer paper looks good stamped on as well.

Have you ever tried Faux Watercoloring?

Hi there, hope you are having a good week. This past weekend I spent a few hours watching some You Tube craft videos to learn some new techniques, one was a video by Dena Rekow called Faux Watercoloring. Thought I would share with you today the card I made trying this technique.

Watercoloring can be scary for some people and I’m here to show you if can be fun, the key is not to overthink it. For this technique, using Watercolor paper, you stamp your image then use your Aqua Painter filled with water to color the image using just the ink from when you stamped the image. If you decide the color is not deep enough just add a little ink from your ink pad with your Aqua Painter.  For my card I chose the Falling Flowers Stamp set and used Rich Razzleberry for the large flower, Crushed Curry for the smaller flower and Old Olive for the leaves.  The greeting is from the Rose Wonder Photopolymer Stamp set and stamped with Basic Black Archival Ink, linen thread finishes it off.  Hope you give this technique a try!
