Strawberry Spinner

Happy Wednesday, half way through the week and closer to the weekend. Plans have changed around here for the weekend. This past Sunday the skimmer on the pool filter broke so we closed the pool for the year.  With my work schedule. I’ll be out of town mid month, made no sense to have a new skimmer installed, refill pool with water (lost about one foot of water) then drain it in a couple weeks to close the pool.  Upside of this story, I will be making cards instead.   🙂

I’ve been having fun making spinner cards, with the new Sliding Star Framelit Dies and foam adhesive strips, you are only limited by your imagination.  There was a piece of the new Fruit Stand Designer Series Paper laying around so I adhered it to the front of a Whisper White card base to use as the background. Next I took a piece of Whisper White 5½” x 4¼” (same size as card front) and using the circle framelit from the set, die cut the circle to use for the slider. Next I stamped random images from the Fresh Fruit stamp set to create my own designer paper. Happy Birthday is stamped in Real Red. The strawberry was stamped in Real Red, leaves in Old Olive and hand cut out, this will be used as the spinning image.

To complete the card I adhered the Whisper White front piece with foam adhesive strips (at the top and bottom) and used foam adhesive strip pieces on the circle as well. To create the “spinner” I used 2 pennies adhered together with a dimensional cut to look like a circle and the strawberry is also adhered with a dimensional, just slide one penny into the groove and the spinning begins.

Simple Saturday with Pop of Paradise

Since today is the last Saturday in August, I thought using the Pop of Paradise stamp set and bright colors was just perfect for my Simple Saturday card. They say the temperature will be about 90 degrees here today and humidity is on the rise, watch out pool here I come!

For my card I used the stamps in the set to create my own background Designer Series Paper for the card. I stamped Melon Mambo Flamingo’s, Cucumber Crush leaves and Delightful Dijon pineapples randomly on the paper making sure some of the images stamped off the paper. The sentiment, also from the stamp set is heat embossed in white on Basic Black and one of the Sweet & Sassy Framelits Dies was used for the die cutting. The piece is adhered with Stampin Dimensionals and has a piece of Burlap ribbon I cut apart layered behind it. This is a fun easy card to put together.

Simple Saturday Aug 27 Pop of Paradise

For this card I only stamped the flamingo and used Wisteria Wonder and Elegant Eggplant to create a tone on tone card.

Purple Flamingos

For a paper saving tip, stamp, emboss and die cut the ‘thinking of you’ out of the center of the Basic Black mat.  No one will ever see the missing heart as the main image piece will be glued down on top of it and then attached to the card base. This is a great way to save on cardstock on projects like this.

Sitting Here with the boys for National Dog Day!

Today’s post is in honor of National Dog Day. Features photo’s of our boys Bandit and Nitro and a card made with the Photopolymer stamp set Sitting Here. The dog in the stamp set reminds me of how the boys like to lie around which meant the stamp set was a must have for me. Don’t you cat lovers worry, the stamp set also has a cat as well, so it’s rather versatile.

Here is a picture of our Husky Bandit, he’s 15 years old. He’s happy being the lone wolf at times by himself and then there are times me loves to hang out with me in my office, whether I’m working or crafting. At his age, he can pretty much do has he likes, we look at each day as a gift.

This is our German Shepherd Nitro, he’s seven months today and weighs 65 lean pounds and still growing.

Now on to today’s card using the Sitting Here and Love & Affection Photopolymer stamp sets.  The focal image of the card is the swing with the dog sleeping surrounded by pillows. To start the card knowing I wanted to color in the images I decided on Shimmery White cardstock which can hold up well when using an Aqua Painter and water. I first stamped the swing from Sitting Here, then used the leaves and flower from Love & Affection stamp set to make it look like the swing was hanging possibly in a garden. Next, using sponge daubers sponged grass and a ‘soft sky’ for the back ground. Stamped a flower pot of either side of the swing knowing I would put hand cut out flower pots on top of them.  Next, using another piece of Shimmery White, stamped the dog, pillows and two flower pots and used by Aqua Painter and a little ink to color in all the pieces and my paper snips to gently cut them out. Remember, move the paper not the snips when cutting out images, it works better that way. The card base is Crumb Cake and mat is Cajun Craze. I used a stylist and ran it along the backside of the cut out images on my piercing mat to add depth, backed each with dimensionals and adhered to the card.  Sentiment was cut on a scrap of Shimmery White, hand cut to a thin strip and sponged with Crumb Cake before adhering with dimensionals. I really like how when you look at the card in the light the images sparkle due to the Shimmery White card stock. While it might be a little work to create all the pieces the end result is beautiful and would be cherished by any animal lover!

Post-it Tape = Cool looking card

Happy Wednesday, half way through the week. The weather here is beautiful this morning so I’m sitting in the sun porch listening to the cars of the interstate and birds, great white noise if you ask me. I can hear the dogs in the yard below walking around enjoying the cooler morning temperatures.  The kids in our school district go back today so I’m sure soon I will hear school buses and voices as they get ready for the first day.  Now on to today’s cards.

To create the cool background for these cards, I used Post-It tape (purchased at my local big box store), ripped in half to block off an area of the paper, then either sponge daubers or a craft sponge to color the area before stamping.  Below you can see what the paper looked like before I started the coloring and measurements of the card stock. I used the same tape for both cards and plan to make a few more until the tape is no longer sticky.

Here is the finished result using the Wetlands stamp set with Crumb Cake, Blushing Bride and Soft Sky ink for the background and Early Espresso for the images and words.

Simple Saturday with Fresh Fruit

Welcome to Simple Saturday, one stamp set for one card.

For the longest time, I didn’t think I needed this stamp set or the matching Fruit Stand Designer Series Paper, well was I wrong. Today I am featuring the stamp set only. In a future Simple Saturday I will combine the paper and stamp set. This is an extremely versatile set and I’m having tons of fun with it, it’s now a must have in my opinion.

Today’s card uses the same images first stamped a few times full strength then a few more using the ‘stamped off’ technique. Stamped off is when you ink the image, stamp on scrap paper then on the good paper for a lighter image. I did this with both the fruit and leaf images to create my own designer series paper to use for the card. Remember to make sure some of the images are stamped off the paper so it looks like you cut your piece of a larger piece of paper.

Layers:

  • Card base: 8½” x 5½”, scored at 4¼”
  • Cucumber Crush Mat 5 3/8″ x 4 1/8″ (die cut the scallop circle out of the center to save paper, no one will know)
  • Whisper White 5 ¼” x 4″
  • Burlap Ribbon – attached with glue dots
  • Cucumber Crush Scalloped Edge Circle – attached with Stampin Dimensionals
  • Whisper White Circle

How did I do that?

Happy Friday. Earlier this week I told you I would explain how I made the easel portion of my shaker card, well today is the day.  I want to again thank fellow demonstrator Connie Stewart for this idea, it’s definitely a cute feature to add when making a shaker card.

The shaker jar of fishes, can be removed from the front of the card and sit on your desk or anywhere you like. You don’t have to make a jar shaker, any shaker shape will work. In fact, you don’t even need to make a card, but why wouldn’t you?

To get started first you need to make the shaker. Mine is using the Jar of Love Bundle, first using Whisper White and a piece of Window Sheet I die cut the jar. On the jar, stamp a few fishes, this creates added dimension in the background. Next I stamped the jar image on Whisper White and using both the jar die and inside portion to cut the opening ran them through the Big Shot. Next stamp I stamped a few fishes and the jar lid and used the matching dies to cut them out. To create the shaker, glue the Window Sheet to the back of the stamped jar image, then taking one of the new foam adhesive strips run it along the window sheet, making sure to match the ends and cut of the access, you can add that piece to the jar lid. Now fill the ‘well’ you just created with a few fishes and some sequins and glitter, my sequins are from Pretty Pink Posh.  Pull the backing off the foam adhesive strips, take the Whisper White jar you die cut and stamped a few fishes on and attach, your shaker is now complete.  On the front of the jar, glue the handle then add the jar lid with Stampin dimensionals to the top.

Front view

To create the “easel”, use a piece of cardstock that matches one of the colors in your card and cut at 7¾” x 1″ scored at 2½”, 3½”, 4½” and 7″.   Fold the score lines and glue the ¾” from one end to the top of the other end, this creates the easel. Glue to the back of the shaker.

Side view

To attach to the card, place the jar on the card front to get an idea where you want, use a pencil to make a few markings and cut a 1¼” slit with your Stampin Trimmer. Erase your marks and tuck the shaker in. This is a cute fun project that kids of all ages ( 1 – 100+) will enjoy.  Here is the completed card.

Happy Birthday Aunt Helen!

Happy Birthday Aunt Helen!  It was great to spend time with you Sunday and Shari’s, always have a good time with family! Today I’ll be sharing with you the cards I made for Aunt Helen and Kenzi my god-daughter. Both are similar, Aunt Helen’s for her birthday and Kenzi using Wittenberg University colors.  Each card has stamped images from Stampin Up and sequins & seed beads from Pretty Pink Posh. One switch up on my card is something I saw on a video from fellow demonstrator Connie Stewart, who took a shaker, added a backing and how the shaker is an embellishment on the card and can be removed to sit as a stand alone decoration.

Here is the front of the Birthday card using the Jar of Love Bundle:

Aunt Helen Outside

Here is a few of the Jar of Love “Shaker” that has an easel backing so that the jar can be removed from the card and sits on the table.

Inside of the birthday card. first stamped the Hooray, using the stamp off method – where you ink up the stamp, stamp on scrap paper then the card for a light watermark like effect. Next came the Happy Birthday, both from the Confetti Celebration Stamp Set:

Simple Saturday with Marquee Messages

Welcome to Simple Saturday using one stamp set to create your card. This week I’m featuring the Marquee Messages Photopolymer Stamp Set. I’ve created two versions of the card, one with Whisper White card stock and another with Watercolor Paper.

For this card, I stamped the images with Basic Black Archival Ink on Whisper White card stock and used the 2016-2018 In-Color Stampin Write Markers to color the images. This piece is then matted on Emerald Envy and adhered to a card base of Peekaboo Peach with Stampin Dimensionals.

Whisper White and Watercolor Paper:  3½” x 4¾”

Emerald Envy and Basic Black Mats: 3 5/8″ x 4 7/8″

Simple Saturday Markers

In this more advanced version of the card I stamped on Watercolor Paper with Basic Black Archival Ink and used my Aqua Painter to color the image and add a Blushing Bride colored shadow around the image. The background paper from the Playful Palette Designer Series Paper Stack provided the colors used: Emerald Envy, Peekaboo Peach, Sweet Sugarplum and Blushing Bride.

Do you use a jar as a vase ?

Well then I have a card for you.

Happy Friday, welcome to weekend eve.  Any special plans, it’s so hot & humid here, we seem to have quite a few pop up storms late afternoon and in the evenings. The past two days we’ve had bad rains with the sun shining and bright rainbows at the end.  This weekend is the church festival, sure hope the rain stays away the next few nights!

Today’s card features the Jar of Love Bundle and bouquet of two-step stamped flowers. The card base and mat (which was run through the Big Shot using the Petal  Burst Textured Embossing Folder) are in Crumb Cake, a nice neutral background for a card with pops of colors.  The jar was stamped in Basic Black, die cut with the matching framelit and adhered with Stampin Dimensionals. All the flowers are two step stamped in Watermelon Wonder, Bermuda Bay, Sweet Sugarplum, Crushed Curry and Flirty Flamingo. Some flowers are backed with dimensionals, others are glued to too the card. Leaves are stamped with Emerald Envy, water is Pool Party and bow is Bermuda Bay.  The ‘congrats’ is from the Sunshine Wishes Thinlit Dies and glued to the card.

May flowers in August

Happy Hump Day, half way through the week and half way to the weekend! Hope you are all having a good week, weather is hot and humid here and I’ve been busy with some charity events and the first week or so is always busy at work, feels good to have some crafting time again.

Today’s card was inspired by a Christmas card I made for a swap I’m in with some demonstrators using stamp sets from the annual catalog, you’ll see that card later in the month.  This card features the Falling Flowers Bundle which includes the Falling Flowers Stamp Set and May Flowers Framelit Dies.

To create the card, using a Crumb Cake card base I stamped the largest image from the stamp set in Crumb Cake on the top right and bottom left. Next is a piece of Very Vanilla that has been run through the Big Shot using the Petal Burst Textured Impressions Embossing folder, adhered with Stampin Dimensionals.  The flower is Sweet Sugarplum cardstock with a piece of matching Sweet Sugarplum Ruched ribbon, layered under a 1 3/8″ Pear Pizzazz punched circle and Very Vanilla 1 1/4″ punched circle. Greeting is from the Thoughtful Banners stamp set. Finishing touch are a few pearl embellishments.

Simple Saturday with Serene Scenery

Welcome to Simple Saturday, this week I decided to do something a little different and feature a Designer Series Paper Stack called Serene Scenery. This paper stack contains 48 sheets of 12 double-sided designs, 6″ x 6″. These papers coordinate with Bermuda Bay, Crumb Cake, Delightful Dijon, Island Indigo, Old Olive, Pool Party and Whisper White card stock. Best part is you can use any stamp set, framelits, thinlits or punches you have for the greeting and embellishments. For my projects I liked the look of the new 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon and Linen thread with the papers, I also used Soft Suede cardstock and ink.

Have any scraps laying around? Make a card !

Happy Monday, hope you had a nice weekend and were able to stay dry if like us you had quite a bit of rain.

Ever look at your crafting space and notice you have lots of scraps laying around? These can be anything from pieces of card stock, ribbon, punch or die cut shapes. This weekend I took some time to organize my crafting space and found I had quite a few extra die cut flowers and waves (some time I just don’t know the exact color I want so I die cut a few extra colors) and decided to make a card using some of those scraps, a fun challenge you should all give a try – I know you have some scraps laying around.

My card today features a Flirty Flamingo flower die cut from the May Flowers Framelits Dies and a Cucumber Crush wave from the Swirly Scribbles Thinlits. I used two flowers glued together off center and adhered with a Stampin Dimensional. The greeting “Happy Birthday” is from the Sweet Cupcake Stamp Set. What’s nice about this stamp set is that it’s a photopolymer stamp set and can shaped to bend like the wave.  To finish off the card I added pearls to the center of the flower.
